چکیده

This paper presents an architecture and protocol in support of proactive mobility for future IP Wireless Access Networks (IP-WANs). It encompasses a novel approach for seamless handoff and proactive relocation of IP roaming state. The latter establishes a generic substrate for proactive state relocation of different context classes relating to the state of IP connectivity for a mobile node (MN). To address such form of IP mobility, the proposed model identifies a tentative mobility matrix (TMM), which represents an accurate mapping between a mobility neighbourhood vector (MNV), surrounding the current point of attachment of an MN and the correct underlying routing neighbourhood vector (RNV), over arbitrary routing topologies. Sustained IP connectivity is achieved by introducing a 1-neighbour-lookahead (1-NL) view of IP roaming state derived from the established TMM component; seamlessness is pursued through mapping of the 1-NL component to some tentative care-of address (tCoA) onto the IP Multicast domain; this allows abstracting a plurality of candidate care-of address instantiations of the MN onto a single handoff routing identifier.

Proactive seamless mobility management for future IP radio access networks

Cellular communications are aligning rapidly to adopt suitable network models for supporting packet switched services over IP networks. Pure third generation (3G) wireless architectures have already adopted IP as the network layer bearer within their core network component specification. This article presents an architecture and protocol in support of proactive mobility management for future IP...

An Efficient Proactive Key Distribution Scheme for Fast Handoff in IEEE 802.11 Wireless Networks

Supporting user mobility is one of the most challenging issues in wireless networks. Recently, as the desires for the user mobility and high-quality multimedia services increase, fast handoff among base stations comes to a center of quality of connections. Therefore, minimizing re-authentication latency during handoff is crucial for supporting various promising real-time applications such as Vo...

Special issue: mobile IP

Mobile Computing that allows networked communication while a user is on the move is revolutionizing the way we use computers today. New protocols have been developed in order to meet the multifunction requirements of both telecommunication and data communications. Protocols such as W-CDMA, CDMA-2000, 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g, were designed to meet different needs in mobile networks. While I...

A Framework for Integrating Mobile-IP and OLSR Ad-Hoc Networking for Future Wireless Mobile Systems

Trends in fourth generation (4G) wireless networks are clearly identified by the full-IP concept where all traffic (data, control, voice and video services, etc.) will be transported in IP packets. Many proposals are being made to enhance IP with the functionalities necessary to manage the mobility of nodes, so that networks can provide global seamless roaming between heterogeneous wireless and...
